Electric Mountain Bikes

Electric Mountain Bikes

Electric bikes are gaining in popularity and, despite the stigma associated with them a few years ago, more and more riders are taking the dive and getting themselves a new electrically assisted toy. To help you in this pursuit, we decided to create this little guide. Here you will find there the 5 reasons why more and more riders are buying electric bikes. We also cover the elements to look into when choosing an electric mountain bike, and finally we provide a comparison table in which we compare more than a dozen models based on their battery, motor, travel suspension and so forth.

The Advantages of an Electric Mountain Bike

Here are 5 advantages that customers who bought an electric mountain bike have shared with us.

  • No need to take the chair lift or shuttle to the top
  • Discovering new trails that were once too far away
  • More descents in the same amount of time
  • Excellent tool for reconnaissance before a competition
  • Allows you to ride with friends at varying levels

Electric Mountain Bike Specifications

Electric mountain bikes usually have more powerful motors in terms of torque. Torque, expressed in Newton meters (N-m), indicates rotational power. For example, buses and tractors have higher torque than cars do. For an enduro or trail bike, you would want a higher N-m value than you would for a cross-country bike.

Electric bikes normally use two types of motors. One type uses a mid drive-unit, and the other uses a rear hub drive-unit. Mid drive-units are better suited for mountain bikers. In addition to offering improved and freer shifting, having a motor on the crankset rather than in the rear wheel helps optimize the bike’s balance and stability.

Below are the motors used by the various mountain bikes we sell. Click on the motor to filter the table. Click on the motors to filter the table
